Mardin Artuklu University, Turkey, invites applications for full-time positions in History, Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, Art History, Archeology, Architecture, Turkish Language and Literature, Kurdish Language and Literature, Syriac Language and Literature, Arabic Language and Literature, and Persian Language and Literature. Positions are available for candidates at all ranks beginning in September 2011 or earlier. Successful candidates, once hired, are expected to fulfill their respective Department’s requirements with regard to teaching, research, record of publications, and service to the institution. Junior candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. All candidates should have an excellent command of English or Turkish and a strong commitment to teaching and research.
Review of applications will begin in March, 2011, and continue until the positions are filled. EXHIBITION: Heroes and Kings of the Shahnama

Until 3rd April 2011

Chester Beatty Library Dublin

The exhibition Heroes and Kings of the Shahnama is currently on at the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin and will continue until April 3rd. On display are 145 manuscripts and single folios produced in both Iran and India between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries and all drawn from the Library’s own collections.

VACANCY: LMEI Research Fellowship in the Art of Heritage (Saudi Arabia)

SOAS seeks to introduce a Research Fellowship of an interdisciplinary nature drawing from knowledge and skills in curatorial work, art and archaeology, social anthropology, ethnography, or history, relating to Saudi Arabia and/or the Arab world. The post-holder will be ideally fluent in Arabic and have a background in textiles and/or costumes. The post is located at the London Middle East Institute (LMEI) at SOAS with the post-holder conducting primary fieldwork and research in the various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

VACANCY: Assistant or Associate Professor in Islamic Archaeology

Haifa University

The Department of Archaeology at The University of Haifa invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (Martze, Martze Bachir) in Islamic Archaeology. Particularly welcome are applicants whose scholarship focuses on the Islamic periods—all or part of them (Umayad, Abassid, Fatimid, Mameluk, Ottoman) in present day Israel and the Levant. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate her/his excavation project(s). Regarding teaching (in Hebrew), the successful candidate will be expected to teach, other than courses related to topics of his/her expertise, courses related to field archaeology. Knowledge of trade networks of these periods, especially maritime networks, is advantegeous. The appointment is subject to the University's budgetary approval.

CALL FOR ARTICLES/MANUSCRIPTS

Deadline: First issue to be published January 2012

International Journal of Islamic Architecture

IJIA is now soliciting manuscripts in the following categories:
Design in Theory - DiT manuscripts focus on the history, theory and critical analyses of architecture, urban planning and design and landscape architecture. Essays submitted should be a minimum of 5,000 words but not more than 8,000 words. (Notes and bibliography are included in the word count).
Design in Practice - DiP manuscripts focus on the practice of architecture, planning and landscape design. It is preferential that DiP papers focus on contextual and/or conceptual issues, analysis or critique of proposals or built projects. Submissions may also include interviews or practitioner reflections or lessons learned. Manuscripts should range from 2,000 to 3,000 words.
Book, Media and Exhibition Reviews - The length of the reviews should generally not exceed 1000 words for one book review essay and no more than 1800 words for an essay that reviews multiple books.
Seminar and conference review papers - to provid an overview and analysis of seminars and conferences that focus exclusively and partially on architectural and urban development, history and theory; and on the latest research and findings in Islamic art and architecture. Seminar and Conference review manuscripts should not exceed 1000 words.
